Wangcun is a well-known village with a history of more than 2,300 years. Lying beside the Youshui River, Wangcun Village enjoys the important position as the gate to Sichuan Province and Hubei Province by taking the advantage of ferry vehicles.

Though time has deprived Wangcun of its prosperity, the village still takes on a unique flavor of simplicity and delicacy. You will certainly fall into a world of stones once you set foot here. Right facing the dock is a five-mile-long slabstone paved path, with ascending steps. Beside the path stands many blue topped wooden houses and stilted houses, lined in order.

History is condensed on this ancient street, which is only two or four meters wide, its width well corresponding to the altitude. The weather-beaten slabs have taken on a shade of dark green and feel as smooth as mirrors. In the past, oil shops, basket shops, odds stores, old-style Chinese private banks and restaurants were scattered along the sides of the street; today, stylish restaurants and various craftwork shops have taken their place, but still with the resounding sound of selling.

Among the many shops, several selling Tujia ethnic fabrics are unique---they are more like workshops. This site used to be the village’s former fabric making plant, which was 500-600 meters away to the dock. In the shops, 10 weaving machines are placed, and colorful bags and blankets are hanging on the walls---tourists can appreciate the weaving girls’ most complicated finger movements on the weaving machine and the displayed products.
